Madonna Rehabilitation Specialty Hospital up and running
It’s been a couple of weeks, and employees at Madonna Rehabilitation Specialty Hospital have been providing excellent medical care for the nine patients they’ve received so far. They’ve had no trouble acclimating to their new home on the fourth floor of Nebraska Medicine – Bellevue.
“Everyone we’ve come across has just been so nice and helpful,” said Jackie Anderson, director of nursing at Madonna Specialty. “We’ve felt truly welcomed here.”
During the first week, Madonna Specialty staff received flower bouquets from the Madonna leadership team, another from Nebraska Medicine – Bellevue’s administrative team and a candy gift from a third floor team visit.
“We wanted to welcome them and let them know that we’re here to help,” said Karen Zelensky, manager of the BMC medical and surgical floor.
Anderson said that the planning for opening of the new floor was so thorough that there have been no major glitches, but minor issues always crop up.
“As things come up, we’ve been learning how things are done here in the various departments,” she said. “It’s simple things — like if certain things are faxed or a call made for a diagnostic test, and what information is needed. But more importantly, people here are great about telling us why things are done a certain way here. We’ve just loved working with the pharmacy, lab, diagnostics and other departments.”
Anderson added that the convenience of having everything on site has been an unexpected surprise.
“In our Lincoln facility, we’re so used to people leaving to have certain tests done,” she said. “I feel like we have so much at our fingertips here.”
Dr. Marlin Stahl, chief medical officer at BMC, and admitting physician at Madonna Rehabilitation hospital, feels the new partnership is off to a great start.
“Madonna has already amazed me with some of the things they do for their patients,” Stahl said. “I can tell that working for both organizations is going to be fun and rewarding for me.”
