Computer Software for Monitoring Performance during Speech Motor Learning Tasks
L. Ball, W. Quach, D. Rupp, T. Jakobs

A computer software program was developed for use in clinical settings that facilitates monitoring certain principles basic to motor learning. The principles addressed include repetitive, random, and distributed practice. In addition, the software monitors levels of accurate productions to assist in rapid clinical decision making and provide adequate motivational incentives for the individual with motor speech disorders to continue in treatment. Criteria for moving to new stimuli are established using the cumulative measures component of the software. The software is demonstrated, and six case examples of implementation in a clinical research setting are illustrated.
