OUTCOMES

Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital uses several measurements to assess the outcomes of persons served. These outcomes are compared with national AR benchmarks compiled by the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association (AMRPA) database called "erehabdata." The outcomes described below are combined outcomes for all patients discharged from Madonna's ARU between July 1, 2009, and June 30, 2010.

Madonna's discharge to community rate was the same as the region despite a much higher case mix index, which is an indication of acuity. Patients stayed longer in ARU and were able to discharge with higher functional scores (FIM).

On average, patients achieved 75% of the goals established on admission to ARU.

96.8% of patients discharging from ARU rated their ovreall experience as "Excellent" or "Good".

93.4% of patients who responded to a telephone survey completed 3 months after discharge said they had maintained the gains they made during their stay at Madonna.

* FIM is a 7-point tool used by rehabilitation hospitals throughout the nation to assess a patient's function in 18 areas, including self-care, bowel and bladder function, transfers, locomotion, communication and cognition. Maximum score on FIM is 126.
