Levels of Care

Subacute Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital: Overview

The Sub-Acute Rehabilitation unit (SAR) at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital serves people with orthopedic and/or medical diagnoses, helping them regain the skills necessary to return to community or other setting of lower intensity.

Licensed as a skilled nursing facility and accredited by CARF, the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission, SAR is a 25-bed unit located on the garden level of the hospital. A majority of Madonna's Orthopedic patients with hip and knee replacements are served on this level of care.

Patients on the SAR at Madonna receive an average of one hour of therapy per day, five days per week as well as intermittent skilled nursing care. While Madonna follows the same transdisciplinary rehabilitation approach described in the ARU section, patients on SAR may either require or be able to tolerate a much lower intensity of rehabilitation due to medical needs or other factors.
