Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital will showcase its award-winning Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program during the 2014 Adaptive Sports and Recreation Fair. This community-wide signature event will be held on Saturday, August 2nd from 1-4 p.m. at its main campus at 5401 South Street in Lincoln.
Open to the public, the fair is free and offers a unique opportunity for attendees of all ages and abilities to interact and participate alongside athletes during demonstrations of numerous sports, adapted for all to enjoy. Sports are adapted for anyone in a wheelchair to try. Attendees with other disabilities are greatly encouraged to participate. Able-bodied individuals are invited to visit Madonna during this event to experience firsthand how a sport is played using adaptive equipment.
Demonstrations of these adaptive sports are scheduled in the north parking lot: 1:00 p.m. - Basketball & Rugby; 1:45 p.m. - Tennis & Soccer; 2:30 p.m. - Basketball & Soccer and 3:15 p.m. - Tennis & Rugby. Visitors can also try Golf and Handcycles from 1-4 p.m., and visit an accessible camper and UTV that will be on display. Demonstrations will also be held in Sheridan Conference Room: 1:00 p.m. - Fencing: 1:45 p.m. - Fencing: 2:30 p.m. - Dance and 3:15 p.m. - Dance.
The following activities will also take place inside of Madonna in the Rehab Day Lounge: 1:00 p.m. - XBox & Wii; 2:00 p.m. – Yoga; 2:30 p.m. – Yoga; 3:00 p.m. - Xbox & Wii and 3:30 p.m. - XBox & Wii. Booths will also be set up in the atrium & North Commons for: Fishing, Travel, Tech Tots and the overall Adaptive Sports & Recreation Program.
