Older sister’s Madonna journey inspires younger sister’s career path

For the last three years, Occupational Therapist Abby McClure has specialized in helping Madonna’s brain injury patients reclaim their life after serious injury or illness. In honor of National Brain Injury Awareness Month, she’s reflecting back on the personal experience her family had with Madonna and her sister’s brain injury recovery that inspired her future career.

Angie Lopez was already set on becoming a physical therapist. The 24-year-old had just graduated with her degree in kinesiology when she sustained a brain injury in November, forcing her to relearn how to walk and talk. As she continues her recovery journey, Angie is already looking ahead to the future. She wants to pay it forward to other patients with brain injuries by returning to Madonna to work once she’s earned her degree.
