Discharge to Community:

  • Most people (63.1%) were able to return to a community setting after their inpatient rehabilitation stay.

Re-hospitalizations:

  • 11.2% of individuals with stroke transferred to acute care hospitals, some for planned procedures. This is similar to other hospitals in the nation (9.4%) and region (9.3%).

Average Length of Stay:

  • 26 days

Patient Satisfaction:

  • 74% of patients rated their experience at Madonna as “Excellent” or “Good.” 93% agreed they would recommend Madonna’s Inpatient Stroke Program to their family and friends.

Functional Status 6-12 Months Post Discharge:

  • 95.5% gained or maintained function
  • 50% returned to work
  • 100% returned to school
  • 44% resumed driving or were able to independently manage public transportation.

Re-hospitalizations 6-12 Months Post Discharge:

  • 28% of patients reported a planned or unplanned re-hospitalization, compared to the national average of 61.9% for Medicare beneficiaries (Fanarow G et al. Stroke, December 2010).
