Inpatient Outcomes

Discharge to Community:

• Most people (65%) were able to return to a community setting after their inpatient rehabilitation stay.

Re-hospitalizations:

• 8% of individuals with stroke transferred to acute care hospitals, some for planned procedures. This is similar to other hospitals in the nation (10.7%) and region (10.1%).

Patient Satisfaction:

• 97% of patients rated their experience at Madonna as “Excellent” or “Good.” 98% agreed they would recommend Madonna’s Inpatient Stroke Program to their family and friends.

Functional Status 6-12 Months Post Discharge:

• 93% gained or maintained function

• 46% returned to work or school

• 50.8% resumed driving

Re-hospitalizations 6-12 Months Post Discharge:

• 14.7% of patients reported a planned or unplanned re-hospitalization, compared to the national average of 61.9% for Medicare beneficiaries (Fanarow G et al. Stroke, December 2010).
