During its fiscal year July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital served 14 individuals with burn, eight on AR and six on LTACH.
Several standard measurements are used to assess the outcomes of persons served, comparing these outcomes against benchmarks.
Discharge Destination It is not unusual for persons with burn to transfer back to the Burn Unit in Acute Care for additional grafting procedures and then return to Madonna to finish thier inpatient rehabilitation program. Last FY, 91% of patients served were discharged to a community setting at the end of their rehabilitation program, which is higher than the regional benchmark. None of the individuals served discharged to acute care for unplanned reasons.
Length of Stay On average, patients with burns were admitted to Madonna 72 days after onset and they stayed in rehabilitation for 51 days.
Functional Gains Burn patients made excellent functional gains as measured by 34.1 point gain on the FIM* scale, which is better than the national benchmark of 27.5 points.
At discharge, Madonna burn patients scored 106.1 on the FIM* scale, which is higher than the national benchmark of 89.2.
Predicted Outcomes 80% of the goals set on admission by individuals with burns were met during their inpateint rehabilitation stay.
Satisfaction 100% of persons with burn served rated their program as "Excellent" overall, exceeding Madonna's internal target of 65%.
Sustainability of Outcomes
100% of individuals served with burns responding to a survey reported maintaining gains three months after discharge.
