During its fiscal year July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital served 22 individuals with burn, six on AR and sixteen on LTACH.
Several standard measurements are used to assess the outcomes of persons served, comparing these outcomes against benchmarks.
- AR Discharge Destination 83.3% of patients served on AR were discharged to a community setting, which is higher than the regional benchmark (60.6%). None were discharged to acute care.
- LTACH Discharge Destination On LTACH, 28.6% were discharged to a community setting and an additional 14.3% transferred to AR for continuation of their rehabilitation prior to going home. 37.5% were discharged to acute care, mostly for additional planned surgical interventions. Only 2 patients had unplanned discharges to acute care.
- Length of Stay Patients stayed an average of 21 days on AR and 24 days on LTACH.
- AR Functional Gains AR patients with burns made excellent functional gains as measured by a 34 point gain on the FIM* scale with an overall discharge score of 106.3 which is significantly better than the regional benchmark of 92.9.
- LTACH Functional Gains Burn patients served on LTACH made excellent progress with a functional gain of 20 points on the FIM scale and average discharge score of 90.
- Satisfaction 100% of persons with burn served on AR and LTACH combined rated their program as "Excellent" overall, exceeding Madonna's internal target of 65%.
* FIM is a 7-point tool used by rehabilitation hospitals throughout the nation to assess a patient's function in 18 areas, including self-care, bowel and bladder function, transfers, locomotion, communication and cognition. Maximum score on FIM is 126.
