WHO WE SERVE
Madonna's CARES (Cardiac) Program is primarily located on the Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) level of care although a significant number of CARES patients are also served on the Acute Rehabilitation Hospital Unit (AR) as well. Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation is offered at Madonna ProActive.
Ages: The average age of CARES patients is 76 years old.
Geographic Area: A majority of patients served are referred from Lincoln hospitals, and live within the state. Madonna also served a small number of patients from the surrounding states of Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and South Dakota.
Volumes: During its most recent fiscal year ending June 30, 2007 Madonna served a total of 289 inpatients with cardiac diagnoses. A majority of the patients (198) were served on the LTACH. An additional 91 patients were served on ARU.
Diagnoses: Patients with the following types of cardiac diagnoses may be appropriate for admission to Madonna's CARES Program:
- Immediate after open heart surgery (CABG or heart valve surgery)
- Post-acute Myocardial Infarction (heart attack)
- Immediately after coronary (heart) stent placement
- New pacemaker insertion with other medical issues
