Stroke Program: Clinical Leadership

  • Patients are seen daily by a physiatrist, a physician who specializes in rehabilitation, and as needed by physicians with other medical specialties such as internal medicine, pulmonology or others.

    Program Manager

    As Program Manager, Amy is responsible for the overall management of the Stroke Program, including provision of clinical leadership and program development, quality improvement and outcomes management, referral development, and customer relations.

    Amy earned her Doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska and is trained in the Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) Approach for treating adults with hemiplegia. She has 11 years of clinical experience, including 9 years working with the stroke population.

    In addition to clinical work, Amy has served as co-investigator on several stroke clinical research trials in the Institute for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. Amy’s professional affiliations include the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Nebraska Physical Therapy Association (NPTA), American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Stroke Association (ASA). She represents Madonna’s Stroke Program on the Lincoln Stroke Partnership committee and is a member of the Nebraska Stroke Advisory Council Rehab Task Force.

  • Stroke Rehabilitation Team

    Madonna has a dedicated interdisciplinary rehabilitation team of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation professionals who have completed stroke competency training and testing, demonstrating the skills necessary to address each person’s rehabilitation as well as medical needs. In addition to the rehabilitation physician, the stroke team is made up of physical, occupational, speech, recreational, nutrition, and respiratory therapists as well as a neuropsychologist, social worker, case manager and rehabilitation nurse. Together they work to meet the age and diagnosis-related physical, cognitive, social and emotional needs of the adults and children we serve with stroke. Madonna is the only rehabilitation hospital in Nebraska that has a full staff of specially trained rehabilitation neuropsychologists on-site who are an integral part of the team, participating in team meetings, leading behavioral intervention plans, and providing counseling and support for both the patient and their family members.
