- Background: Madonna's Stroke Rehabilitation Program is designed to meet the needs of persons with all types of stroke. 42% of patients served at Madonna had a right brain stroke, affecting the left side of the body, 37% had a left brain stroke, affecting the right side of their body, and 21% had a stroke that affected other areas of their brain, such as their brain stem, resulting in impairments in balance and coordination.
- Ages: Madonna serves people of all ages with stroke. The average age of persons served with stroke last fiscal year was 72 years, with 35% of patients between the ages of 18 and 65, and 3 patients 18 years old or younger.
- Geographic Area: While the majority of patients with stroke live in Nebraska, 27 individuals from other states including South Dakota, North Dakota, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Indiana and Oregon were served.
- Volumes: During its most recent fiscal year ending June 30, 2007 Madonna served a total of 306 inpatients with Stroke. A majority of the patients (168) were served on the Acute Rehabilitation Hospital (AR), 118 patients with stroke, many who had other medical complications, were served on the Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) and 20 were served on Sub-Acute Rehabilitation (SAR).
- On an outpatient basis, a total of 176 new patients with stroke were served. Of these, 44 were served in the Rehabilitation Day Program and the rest received services at TherapyPlus, Main Campus.
