Chronic lung disease affects more than 37 million adults in the United States alone. Chronic lung disease includes asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer. The American Lung Association sponsors the Better Breathers Club (BBC), a support group for adults with lung disease, their families, friends and support persons.
The BBC’s goal is improving quality of life and functional status for members by providing disease-specific education and emotional connection that may prevent exacerbations requiring medical care, thereby reducing the health, economic and social burden of lung disease. Each meeting will include an educational topic, group discussion and sharing.
Two other Nebraska BBCs are established in Omaha and York. Madonna will help increase services to those in the Lincoln community by offering this specialized pulmonary support group.
