Speech Intelligibility Test
The Speech Intelligibility Test (SIT) brings both sentence and word features of the Assessment of Intelligibility of Dysarthric Speech (Yorkston & Beukelman, 1981), the Computerized Assessment of Intelligibility of Dysarthric Speech, CAIDS, (Yorkston, Beukelman, and Traynor, 1984), and the Phoneme Intelligibility Test to Windows platforms. All earlier products have been used extensively to measure the speech intelligibility of persons with motor speech disorders, laryngeal cancer, oral cancer, foreign dialect, and cleft palate.

Measures:

• Sentence: Speech Intelligibility, Speaking Rate and Communication Efficiency
• Word: single word intelligibility, percent of accurate vowels/consonants, additional scoring for stops, fricatives, affricates, semi-vowels, nasals and pressure

• Random Test Generation, Stop Watch Timer, Judging Editor and Improved File Saving Functionality

The Speech Intelligibility Test is structured so that it is easy to learn and simple to operate. The 'button-navigation' interface makes the program's functions readily accessible. You can create hard copy tests or administer them right on the screen. The program reports several intelligibility measurements, including Communication Efficiency Ratio.

Pacer/Tally for Windows
This program for the manipulation and measurement of speaking rate brings many features of Pacer/Tally for Apple II computers (Yorkston, Beukelman, & Tice, 1989) to the Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 platforms. The earlier product was used to pace and measure spontaneous speaking rate in the following clinical populations: dysarthria, acquired apraxia of speech, stuttering, and foreign dialect. It was also used in a variety of research applications with disorders and normal speakers. A new feature to measure the speaking rates during reading has been added. Communication Disorders Software has structured the Pacer and Tally for Windows programs so that they are easy to learn and simple to operate. The button-navigation interface design makes it easy to access the programs' many features.
Pacer Features:

• variable rate control, word-by-word rate manipulation, five signaling strategies.

Tally Features:

• oral reading or spontaneous speech measurement, periodic and summary reports.

Both programs have built-in text editors that can create or modify standard ASCII text files. Files generated by the Sentence Intelligibility Test for Windows can also be paced or measured.
