Vision Rehabilitation: Who We Serve

Background: The Vision Program at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital serves inpatients and outpatients of all ages with vision impairments resulting from aging, illness or injury which affect daily living activities. People with the following symptoms may benefit from the Vision Rehabilitation Program:

  • Feeling off-balance
  • Reluctant to move head
  • Double vision
  • Views print from the corner of their eye
  • Dizziness, nausea, or spatial disorientation
  • Staring to one side
  • Fuzzy or blurry vision
  • Shadow vision
  • Difficulty reading print
  • Difficulty distinguishing colors

Types of Diagnoses: Madonna's Vision Rehabilitation Program is a vital component to both inpatients and outpatients in the Brain Injury Program, Stroke Program and Neurological Conditions Program.

Volumes: Madonna's Vision Rehabilitation Program has three basic components: Vision Clinic, Vision Rehabilitation, and Low Vision Services. The information below reflects the volume of patients served during our most recent fiscal year ending June 30, 2007 in each of those areas:

  • 192 inpatients and 85 outpatients were screened for vision problems
  • 152 inpatients and 46 outpatients were seen in the vision clinic
  • 117 outpatients were referred for ongoing Vision Rehabilitation
  • 5 inpatients and 32 outpatients were seen for Low Vision Services
