Generosity takes children’s rehabilitation to the next level

Three years ago, Larry the Cable Guy announced the Git R Done Foundation’s $1.2 million gift to create the Alexis Verzal Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital at Madonna. Since its opening in July of 2010, the new inpatient facility has truly transformed lives.

Now thanks to a $470,000 gift from Rhonda and Thomas Peed of the Peed Foundation, Madonna will be able to take the next step in children’s rehabilitation by relocating and renovating its outpatient pediatric therapy services.

The renovation includes the construction of a pediatric therapy gym, private treatment rooms, and a reception area. The therapy gym will include a floor to ceiling climbing wall and a variety of therapeutic equipment. The area is expected to be completed this summer.
Moving outpatient services adjacent to the Alexis Verzal Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital will give children and their families more convenient use of the state-of-the-art equipment located inside the inpatient children’s rehab hospital, such as the Lokomat™ robotic gait trainer, the indoor playground, and the Snoezelen sensory therapy room.

The new outpatient facility also will feature a 1,850 square foot outdoor therapeutic courtyard and playground. This inviting area will be fully landscaped and outfitted with comfortable benches, tables and chairs and accessible playground equipment.

The proximity of inpatient and outpatient pediatric services will help establish a link between families who are just starting down a long rehab path with those who have already navigated through it.

“We are most grateful to Rhonda and Tom Peed for their long history of support of Madonna, but especially for this gift that will help transform the lives of our youngest patients,” said Madonna President and CEO Marsha Lommel.

A special thanks!
