- Shannon Anderson "Living with or without pain had become my focus until I came to Madonna TherapyPlus and Madonna ProActive. For the first time, and there have been many attempts, I was helped along a healing journey that incorporated both fitness and wellness. Now I think about living, doing and achieving. Madonna TherapyPlus ProActive taught me how to integrate both wellness and fitness, and Madonna ProActive has not only created a place where I can begin my healing journey but a culture too where I receive support, encouragement and expert guidance every step of the way. My worst days are met with the professionalism and passion of staff throughout the organization. Their enthusiasm and commitment seem to make my journey more meaningful and determined."
- Larry Worth In 2005, 62-year-old Larry tore his patellar tendon and suffered a hairline fracture in his ankle. Although his own doctor is associated with a different physical therapy business in Lincoln, Larry realized that when it comes to his healthcare, he has a choice, so Larry chose Madonna TherapyPlus Outpatient Services. At the end of December 2005, Larry began a seven-week regimen of care with physical therapist and "O" Street Clinic Manager Bob Lueke. Bob provided straightforward, efficient therapy, according to Larry, but most importantly, the sessions were effective. The convenient hours and location allowed Larry to attend his appointments with ease and return to his work with StarTran, Lincoln’s public transit system.
- Catherine Crose After enduring vertebroplasty and a lamenectomy, Catherine Crose, 58, of Lincoln, was referred to aquatic therapy at Madonna TherapyPlus ProActive. After several sessions, Catherine said she felt a major decrease in the pain she suffered from a compression fracture in her back.
"We have done exercises with my legs and arms that have been making my back, arms and legs stronger. I was on my way to walking before I came to Madonna ProActive, but that process would have taken a lot longer. Thanks to the water therapy, I can actually say that I am 75 percent improved over my condition when I left home healthcare and came to Madonna ProActive. During the four weeks, I have transferred from a walker to a cane easily and am using it only for going outside. I can move about easily at home without the cane for short distances," Catherine said.
The heated pool at ProActive alleviated pain associated with doing the exercises for Catherine and she said she even noticed a difference moving on land after working in the pool. Catherine added, "The therapists were very knowledgeable and helpful. Plus, the exercises have helped me to lose weight and to shed a few inches from some crucial areas, as well as give me a more positive attitude that I will attain my goal."
- Tyler Smith He wasn’t even supposed to walk again after a car accident in July 2006 changed Tyler Smith’s life, but the rehabilitative care he received at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital and TherapyPlus ProActive helped Tyler return to many of the things the active 18-year-old enjoys.
Once Tyler was ready for outpatient services, he began working with several therapists at TherapyPlus ProActive, but it was Doug Tvrdy, PT, DPT, OCS., CSCS, who worked most closely with Tyler. According to Tyler’s mother, Dianne, good communication among the staff and extensive professionalism and knowledge helped her son achieve goals. "Doug was quick to celebrate even the smallest of achievements," said Dianne. "At the same time, he encouraged Tyler and motivated him to keep working. He wanted consistency."
Tyler relearned to walk and build strength using a variety of equipment, including the Body Weight Supported Treadmill. "He started from zero and had no muscle strength. Now, he’s almost back to normal," added Dianne.
With encouragement from his parents, siblings, friends and the team at Madonna TherapyPlus ProActive, Tyler had a full team of support. Dianne said the environment at Madonna ProActive added to her son’s recovery. "Clients, too encouraged Tyler. They became a kind of ‘cheer team’ for him with their encouraging comments. ProActive’s integrated philosophy was important to Tylyer’s healing," Dianne said.
Now Tyler is back to enjoying life again. He’s a senior in high school and involved in theatre, singing in choir, hanging out with friends and living his life to the fullest. "Madonna is the best place a person can go to get better."
