Heather Boulais

Heather Boulais
About Me / Why I participate in this event:

In 2015, Heather Boulais, an aerial acrobat/gymnast, suffered a severe traumatic brain injury after falling more than 23 feet. After the traumatic fall, Heather had to relearn skills such as breathing, swallowing, smiling, eating, walking, and talking. After 30 days in the Intensive Care Unit, Heather started her 7 months of inpatient rehabilitation with Madonna. Since her injury, Heather has progressed tremendously! After 16 long, silent months Heather relearned how to use her voice again. She continues to amaze with new words and phrases everyday. She no longer needs a wheelchair or a walker, and no longer needs to wear orthotic braces for walking. She is able to walk independently without assistance. Still undergoing regular speech, occupational, and physical therapy, she continues to be determined to improve and regain her speech and motor skills. Heather studied to be a 2nd grade teacher and continues to strive towards this goal. Heather currently volunteers in a 3rd grade classroom 1-2 days a week. In addition to the many prayer warriors, Heather’s family credits the compassionate team at Madonna for Heather’s continuing progress. Madonna is excited to have Heather on the Ambassador team!
