Madonna gives Nebraska All-Star football player new life outlook after spinal cord injury

Byron Skinner of Merriman, Nebraska, was driving home from work when his brakes stopped working. In the rollover crash, the 18-year-old was ejected and sustained a spinal cord injury. Byron crawled back to the highway and waited for help. Instead of playing in the Nebraska-Wyoming six-man All-Star prep football game, Byron arrived at Madonna eager to learn how to become independent in a wheelchair. Madonna TLC facilitates back-to-school prep for students and teachers

While the school year is just now starting, learning doesn’t take a summer break at Madonna. Through our unique, donor-funded Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC), students can seamlessly transition back to the classroom after a serious injury or illness. The TLC also offers patients who are teachers the ability to participate in the work re-entry program, creating benefits for students and staff alike.

After spending eight weeks recovering at Madonna, she returned home with a renewed outlook on life and a desire to pursue a career in physical therapy.
