Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals is happy to announce the organization is resuming key, patient-centered services that were once paused due to the pandemic.
Madonna researchers are developing an app to help clinicians find technological solutions for their patients with high-level spinal cord injuries, brainstem stroke or ALS. The project is a collaboration among Madonna’s Institute for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering, Koester Performance Research, and Penn State University.
Hit by a train while on his way to work, Ladell Kellenberger came to Madonna to achieve his maximum functional gain and to live independently once again. Ladell, who goes by the nickname of "Gopher," hopes to one day return to his career as a construction worker and plumber.
David Betts is a real-life hero. While at work, the roofer saved a crew member who was slipping. David ended up falling himself. The 10-foot plummet severely injured his back, and doctors told him he may never walk again.
Given the health care challenges of the last two years, the incidence of pressure injuries or pressure ulcers has been steadily increasing across hospital systems nationwide. However, Diane Ulmer, the Spinal Cord Injury Program manager at Madonna, believes that with teamwork, technology and the proper equipment, all health care professionals can reduce the occurrence of pressure injuries and improve patient care outcomes.
