This year Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals celebrates its 60th anniversary. After opening a home for the aged in 1958, the Benedictine Sisters clearly saw the need for rehabilitation services in the community and in 1979 established Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital.
Today, with our Omaha expansion, we are now a two-campus, comprehensive system, recognized as a regional and national leader for rehabilitative excellence. Our Omaha Campus capital campaign has been a great success thanks to hundreds of enthusiastic donors and friends. Our initial $10 million campaign goal was achieved, resulting in an additional $1 million challenge grant. Finally, Madonna’s new Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency program in conjunction with the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), began July 1, 2018—one year ahead of schedule. We are proud to care for patients not just from a physical perspective but holistically. We believe we are doing God’s work helping those in need heal and return to a meaningful life. This is our mission and we remain committed to it.
As part of our anniversary celebration, we are launching a new and improved Independent magazine. These pages are filled with articles that reflect our passion for rehabilitation. They also showcase the gifts we have been given to fulfill our mission. Expert staff, open to the call of those in need, cutting-edge research, innovative technology and medical, academic and community partnerships—these gifts ensure our ongoing success. We have a clear vision to be the destination of choice for world-class rehabilitation, providing children and adults devastated by illness or injury the bright hope of being made whole.
I believe it is a vision within reach.
