Norfolk woman continues to make strong progress after spinal cord injury

While crossing the street after leaving a Fourth of July fireworks show, Cami Story was hit by an SUV. The accident left her with a spinal cord injury, a broken clavicle and lacerations to her feet and head. First-responders life-flighted the Norfolk native to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Two weeks later, Cami came to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals unable to feel her fingers or toes.

Custom-built tripod from Madonna’s Institute helps photographer pursue passion

When Chad Madson, a professional photographer living with cerebral palsy, realized his old tripod wasn’t up to the task anymore, he knew he could reach out to his friends at Madonna for help. Chad met with Madonna’s team of engineers at the Institute for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering, and within a few days, he had a new and improved tripod. “It’s great having a place like Madonna right here in Lincoln,” Chad said. “It’s a huge advantage for people with disabilities to have a place close by that offers more than just physical therapy.” Read more about Chad’s story here:

Whether it’s casting a fishing rod or working out, Thomas Bulfer loves being active. But in June, the 22-year-old from Madison, South Dakota, sustained a spinal cord injury at the lake. Thomas came to Madonna with no movement in his lower body but was ready to work hard. Read on to see how Madonna’s recreational therapy helped Thomas build confidence in his rehabilitation journey.
