Kansas woman triumphs over brain injury with son by her side

While walking out of the 2023 Kansas State Fair, Kristen Musick and a few members of her family were hit by a car. “I pushed my husband and my grandson out of the way,” the 55-year-old from Hutchinson, Kansas, said. “That's what they tell me. I don’t remember the day.” Thanks to Kristen’s quick actions, her grandson and husband had relatively minor injuries. Conversely, Kristen sustained a traumatic brain injury. She came to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals’ specialized brain injury program, with the loving support of her entire family. Dalton Hazlett’s strength and community support spearheads recovery

In sports, you learn practice makes perfect, and that’s the mindset 20-year-old Dalton Hazlett applied to his rehabilitation journey at Madonna. After sustaining a severe brain injury and multiple fractures from an ATV accident, the former three-sport athlete from Pilot Grove, Missouri, displayed his strong character. And just like on the football field, Dalton didn’t face this fight alone. His mom, his care team, and community cheered him on every step of the way.
