Geslin Alexander loved to sing jazz but after a nearly five-month stay in two different acute care hospitals, Geslin’s voice didn’t sound like she wanted it to. When she arrived at Madonna, her entire body was deconditioned from a lengthy battle with several different medical conditions. She spent weeks on a ventilator and underwent multiple surgeries, including amputations on both feet. She was forced to relearn how to walk, talk and even breathe on her own. But in May 2022, his parents knew something was wrong when his body grew weak and he lost the use of his arms and legs. Doctors at Boys Town National Research Hospital diagnosed the energetic boy from O’Neill, Nebraska, with Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare condition where the immune system attacks the body’s nerves.
