Talented teen returns to stage after brain injury

Between schoolwork, drama, band, choir, Ultimate Frisbee club and Boy Scouts, 16-year-old Matthew Schulte stays busy and knows the value of hard work. So, it’s no surprise he has had an incredible recovery from a traumatic brain injury sustained in a November car crash. Arriving at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals in a minimally conscious state, he was unable to walk, talk or even eat on his own, but he was determined to get strong enough to return to the stage in time for a National Honor Choir concert in Cincinnati Feb. 22. Norfolk woman continues to make strong progress after spinal cord injury

While crossing the street after leaving a Fourth of July fireworks show, Cami Story was hit by an SUV. The accident left her with a spinal cord injury, a broken clavicle and lacerations to her feet and head. First-responders life-flighted the Norfolk native to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Two weeks later, Cami came to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals unable to feel her fingers or toes.

Whether it’s casting a fishing rod or working out, Thomas Bulfer loves being active. But in June, the 22-year-old from Madison, South Dakota, sustained a spinal cord injury at the lake.
