Lynne Milimu is rarely seen without a smile on her face. Her care team at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals describes her as a ball of sunshine and a positive light. She spends hours in the cafeteria of the specialized brain injury unit chatting with other patients and cheering them on in therapy. But this is a transformation that didn’t happen overnight.. Lynne and her care team worked together to heal her mind and body after she sustained a brain injury as the result of a traumatic event on Mother’s Day.

Whether it’s casting a fishing rod or hunting, Trace Ritterhouse loves being outdoors. But in December, the 17-year-old from Ellinwood, Kansas, sustained a traumatic brain injury in a car accident. He arrived at Madonna in a minimally conscious state, but slowly pushed himself to walk and talk again. Nothing was going to stand in his way of resuming his outdoor lifestyle.

Between schoolwork, drama, band, choir, Ultimate Frisbee club and Boy Scouts, 16-year-old Matthew Schulte stays busy and knows the value of hard work. So, it’s no surprise he has had an incredible recovery from a traumatic brain injury sustained in a November car crash. Arriving at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals in a minimally conscious state, he was unable to walk, talk or even eat on his own, but he was determined to get strong enough to return to the stage in time for a National Honor Choir concert in Cincinnati Feb. 22.
