Sky’s the limit for Skylar after a stay at Madonna

Skylar McCaulley always knew he wanted to become a doctor. But then the aspiring medical school student began to suffer from severe migraines, and a CT scan later revealed Skylar had suffered a ruptured AVM or arteriovenous malformation that led to a stroke. Skylar came to Madonna’s brain injury program unable to move or eat, but his care team soon saw his progress skyrocket.

Jayslynn “Jays” Ramirez has always loved Christmas, and this year the holiday will mean even more to her and her family. That’s because Jays will be home for the first time since an August car accident left her with a brain injury. While she recovered at Madonna, her care team incorporated her love of Christmas into her therapy, like decorating the Christmas tree. “That’s the cool part about doing things that patients love because you’re able to marry the therapy and what they want to do together, and that way everyone wins,” Bridget Mulhall, an occupational therapy student who worked with Jays at Madonna, said.

At Madonna, we provide intensive and comprehensive rehabilitation programs for individuals recovering from a neurological illness or serious injury. Vision issues are common among our patients across all levels of care, especially those who have survived traumatic brain injuries or strokes. Addressing an individual’s ability to see clearly early in the rehabilitation program can improve results for many patients because vision relates directly to balance, attention and interaction with people and objects in one's environment.
