In the field of physical therapy and medical rehabilitation, few professionals achieve the distinction of being recognized as both a skilled practitioner and a thought leader. Doug Tvrdy PT, DPT, a board-certified orthopedic specialist and certified strength and conditioning specialist at Madonna’s Wellness Club, is one such individual.
We are delighted to reveal that Tvrdy has recently contributed to the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s upcoming second edition of “Developing Power.” In his designated chapter, Tvrdy shares his considerable knowledge about core strength training.
“In the fall of 2022, I was contacted by Roger Earle from the National Strength & Conditioning Association about contributing to this project,” Tvrdy said. “He mentioned they had read some of my previously published papers on core strengthening and thought that I would be able to contribute my expertise to the book.”
Tvrdy’s involvement in “Developing Power” underscores his dedication to advancing the field of physical therapy. He earned his doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Then, in 2003, he earned his certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and later earned his orthopedic specialist designation in 2007. He has served the Lincoln community at Madonna’s wellness club since it opened in 2006. Within his practice, Tvrdy has worked with all types of clients, including youth, high school, collegiate, and professional athletes. He has also routinely presented at regional sports medicine conferences.
By contributing to “Developing Power,” Tvrdy hopes he inspires his fellow therapists, sports coaches, and clients to incorporate core strength training into their practices more effectively.
“Research has shown that improving core strength can improve the performance of all types of sports activities,” Tvrdy said. “It can help improve throwing speed, improve both sprint and endurance running times, and improve vertical jump height. It has also been shown to help prevent both back and leg injuries.”
The NSCA’s second edition of “Developing Power” is set to be released on September 13, 2024, and will be available for purchase on Amazon or Human Kinetics.
