Burn Program
Our vision is to help all burn survivors rebuild their lives and reintegrate into their homes, workplaces, schools, and personal activities.
BURN REHABILITATION PROGRAM
Madonna is a leading burn rehabilitation program in the region, delivering outstanding outcomes through a continuum of care. Our dedicated team of experts anticipates the needs of burn survivors and equips them with the knowledge and skills to manage their wounds and scars. We employ leading-edge, research-based interventions to address impairments, fostering an environment of trust, acceptance, and respect throughout recovery.
On-Site Care
Expert Clinical Staff
Treatment by a consistent team of clinicians with special training in burn rehabilitation facilitates quick responses to any problems or issues, resulting in faster healing and functional improvement. Inpatients are seen daily by a physiatrist, a doctor who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation, or an internal medicine physician. Physicians with other medical expertise are consulted as needed.
Space
Designated rooms ensure privacy and easy access to exclusive showers, decrease the risk of infection, and preserve each individual’s dignity.
The Transition from Acute Care
A pre-admission team visits each patient during their acute care stay to ease the transition to rehabilitation, reducing anxiety for patients and their family members, and ensuring effective continuity of care and consistent use of appropriate medical equipment and supplies.
Patient Family Education
Comprehensive educational packets are provided and work as a supplement to verbal instruction with demonstrations for patients and their family members. Topic areas include: access to benefits and support systems, adaptive techniques and equipment for completion of activities of daily living (ADL), use of assistive devices, caregiver skills, community re-entry skills, community resources, driving, edema control, emotional recovery, care and use of pressure garments, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and wellness, home modifications, safe relief of itching, adaptive sports and recreation, personal life roles and areas of participation, medications, mobility, nutrition, pain management, creation/maintenance of a personal health profile, prevention of burns, prevention of secondary complications after a burn, skin care, sun protection, scar management, temperature regulation and return to work. Multimedia resources are available and provide long-term resources for concerns that may arise after discharge.
Scar Management
Comprehensive non-surgical scar management techniques, such as manual scar mobilization, localized stretching and custom orthotics are provided to patients and their caregivers to continue outside therapy sessions for the best results.
Transition to Community
Consultation with community-based therapists or others, such as a school system, for an easier transition back to each individual’s home community and life roles.
Wellness Club
As part of Madonna’s continuum of care, specialized programming for persons with physical limitations is provided at Madonna ProActive. See the Madonna TherapyPlus Structured Independence Program and ProActive LifeGuide for Adaptive Training Class to learn more.
