Faith, expert care played equal roles in Lincoln priest’s recovery at Madonna

After an infection caused an amputation and eye loss for the Rev. Robert Matya, it became clear that he needed medical rehabilitation. The director of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Newman Center arrived at Madonna weak and unable to walk. Not only did he receive daily physician visits to manage his complex medical condition, but he also underwent physical and occupational therapy and received care from our spiritual care team. Nebraska woman regains independence after double amputation

Losing a limb is a life-changing event. The medical rehabilitation necessary after such an event, whether due to a serious illness or accidental trauma, can be a long journey. Just ask Amelia Boettcher of Spencer, Nebraska. She came to Madonna’s specialized amputation program after losing both legs in a severe car accident.
