Sky’s the limit for Skylar after a stay at Madonna

Skylar McCaulley always knew he wanted to become a doctor. But then the aspiring medical school student began to suffer from severe migraines, and a CT scan later revealed Skylar had suffered a ruptured AVM or arteriovenous malformation that led to a stroke. Skylar came to Madonna’s brain injury program unable to move or eat, but his care team soon saw his progress skyrocket.

High-intensity interval training or HIIT is a cardio workout that features repeated short bursts of activity interspersed with rest periods. Years of evidence has shown the HIIT can help an individual lose weight, build muscle and boost metabolism. Now Madonna's Institute for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering is looking into how beneficial this type of workout could be for survivors of serious illnesses, such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease or breast cancer.
