ADAPTIVE SPORTS AND RECREATION COMPETITION

Madonna sponsors two wheelchair sports teams and offers tournaments throughout the year for adaptive sports including tennis, golf and wheelchair basketball.

Madonna Magic Wheelchair Basketball

The Madonna Magic team has been competing since 1996 and is a part of the Midwestern Conference of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association. The Madonna Magic competes against teams throughout the Midwest, including Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Every Tuesday evening between October and March, the Madonna Magic practices at Madonna ProActive’s accessible gymnasium. Visitors are welcome to watch.

Madonna Match Points Wheelchair Tennis

The Madonna Match Points tennis team is made up of seasoned players as well as rookies. Madonna is a member of the US Tennis Association and works in collaboration with the Woods Tennis Center. They practice weekly at the Woods Tennis Center. Together we host the annual Lincoln Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament. Visitors are welcome to watch practice or tournament play.

OPEN Adaptive Sports and RECREATION

Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital offers scheduled, weekly outings for inpatients, outpatients and community members to experience various sports and recreational activities.

Adaptive Fishing

Offered the third Monday of each month from May to October at Holmes Lake, 70th Street and Normal Blvd from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. You can experience fishing with Madonna’s Adaptive Sports and Recreation team.  They will help participants learn or relearn to cast, attach tackle to poles, reel and release from standing or wheelchair levels. Adaptive fishing poles are available. Cost: $5.

Tennis

Offered the second Monday of each month year-round at the Woods Tennis Center, 33rd & J Street from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Participants will learn basic skills and adaptations with a professional instructor provided by Woods Tennis Center. Standing or wheelchair-level participants work on skills such as forehand, backhand, rallying, serving, and tennis drills. Cost: $5

Rec Space

Offered the first Monday of each month from November to May at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals’ Lincoln Campus for Madonna inpatient and outpatients only. Participants will learn or relearn basic skills for billiards, from a standing or wheelchair level. In addition to billiards, participants can play shuffleboard, Ping-Pong or air hockey. Adaptive techniques and equipment provided.

Golf

Offered the first Monday of each month from May to October at Ager Golf Course, 3761 Normal Blvd from 11:00 to noon. Participants will be able to utilize the driving range and the putting green. Participants will learn basic skills such as grip, swing, and the use of adaptive clubs if needed. Instruction will be provided by Madonna personnel. Cost: $5.

Bowling

Offered the fourth Monday of each month year-round at Parkway Lanes, 2555 S. 48th Street from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Participants will learn or relearn basic skills for bowling. Participants will have the opportunity to bowl standing or at wheelchair level. Adaptive bowling equipment will be provided. Cost: $5.

Basketball

Offered the first Monday of each month from November to April at Madonna’s Wellness Club at 7111 Stephanie Ln, Lincoln, NE 68516 from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn or re-learn basic skills for basketball. Patients will have the opportunity to do activities in standing or at wheelchair level. Cost: $5.

ADAPTIVE SPORTS AND RECREATION WORKSHOPS

Madonna offers affordable workshops to the community and its patients on various sports and recreational activities.

Adaptive Sports Fair

The purpose of this free event is to expose people to the various adaptive sports and recreational activities available in our community. With more than 15 interactive booths and activities, youth and adults are exposed to sports such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, adaptive rock climbing, quad rugby, power soccer, fencing, golf, CrossFit, dance and much more.
