Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals

2018 Georgann Claussen Memorial Award of Excellence

February 18, 2019

Diane Ulmer, occupational therapist and Spinal Cord Injury program manager, is the recipient of the 2018 Georgann Claussen Memorial Award of Excellence.

Rich and Bill Claussen established the award in memory of their mother to honor compassion and excellence in helping children and adults with disabilities rebuild their lives. They credit Madonna staff with giving their children two more years to get to know their grandmother thanks to the excellent patient care Georgann received at Madonna.

According to Pulmonary Program Manager Melissa Gulizia, who was Diane’s nominator, “There are many words to describe Diane, but if I had to pick a handful, I would say: passionate, caring, respectful, knowledgeable, and someone who will always go above and beyond.”

During her 15 years of service to Madonna, Diane has worked hard to uphold the hospitals’ core values. Melissa shares that Diane ensures that her patients get the best quality of care before, during and after their stay at Madonna. “She takes the time to listen to patients, families and staff of any concerns or questions and always ensures good follow-up."

The first award was given in 2001. Since that time, the award has been presented to nurses, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, a physical therapist, a physical therapy aide, a recreation therapist, a respiratory therapist and a social worker – all critical members of the patient care team.

Thank you to the Claussen Family for their generosity in helping Madonna recognize excellence in patient care. Congratulations, Diane!
