Scholarships help people help themselves

August 31, 2017

During a recent visit to California, Suzanne Sughroue, Madonna Foundation director of development, updates Marilyn Story on the scholarship fund Marilyn and her sister established.

The Support

A grateful family “paid it forward” 31 years ago to ensure that Madonna staff members, who cared so lovingly for a loved one, would have the opportunity to further their educational dreams.

The R.F. and Margaret O. Mullin Education Fund was established in 1986 by the Mullins’ daughters, Marilyn Story and Charlene Hammer, to honor their parents. During Mullin’s stay as a patient at Madonna, the family witnessed first-hand the high quality of care made possible by the dedicated team. The family was deeply touched by the comfort afforded to their father during his final days.

As a former nurse, Marilyn Story appreciated the need for a talented nursing staff. She believes strongly in the power of education to help people help themselves, which ultimately benefits children and adults at Madonna.
