The keynote speaker at the Madonna Foundation's Angel Spotlight event is practically an expert on the many features of Madonna's world-class rehabilitation. Sidney Doane has used almost all of the latest rehabilitation therapy equipment at Madonna during her three and half years of inpatient and outpatient therapy.
Sidney and her mom, Heidi, shared their inspiring rehabilitation journey with donors at the thank you event on May 8. The Doane Family found themselves at Madonna in early 2015 after Sidney suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in a one-vehicle crash near Wichita, Kansas.
Sidney’s courageous journey is a testament to her strong faith and supportive family. Yet, without donor support, Sidney would not have had access to the world-class rehabilitation that was critical to her recovery. The determined Kansan battled her way back, using everything from the latest robotic therapy, to aquatic therapy and the ICARE, an elliptical training system developed at Madonna and patented and distributed internationally.
Sidney shared a special message of thanks to the donors, staff members, friends and family who supported her journey:
“I am grateful to each and every one of you for standing by me through this journey and working so hard to give me my life back. I’m proud to say my journey is just beginning back to the University of Kansas to finish my graduate degree in school psychology. I have a long way to go yet, and thanks to the angels from Madonna, everyday gets better and I will make it. I thank you for your continued support of Madonna and the chance you have given me and so many others to enjoy life and make a difference once again. Thank you!”
